What are we?

We are a Young Farmers club in the north of Scotland, open to anyone between the age of 14 and 30.  An interest in Agriculture is not essential. We currently have 66 members, with nearly half not being from a farm or with a farming background.

Where are we?

Halkirk is a village in the county of Caithness.  We are 100 miles from Inverness and 250 miles from Edinburgh.  We have an average of 1 meeting per month, held in the Ross Institute in Halkirk.

Who are we?

To prove the point you don't have to be a young farmer to be a young farmer, our member's job occupations include:- Chartered Accountant, Electrician, Receptionist, Coal merchant, Life guard, Engineer, Trainee Butcher, Joiner, Cost Engineer and Mechanic.

What do we do?

We have a vast range of club events and competitions throughout the year as well as a couple of fundraising events.  We also take part in as many district competitions as possible and also Regional and National events.  We have competed at the last four National Competitions weekends, in Orkney, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Oban.  In Orkney we had teams in the Country Cooks and 10 pin Bowling.  In Aberdeen we had teams in the Foursomes Competition and the volleyball competition.  Edinburgh saw a football and 10 pin team as well as a Member of the Year entry.  In Oban we had a football team and entry in the 10 pin bowling.

In the past we have competed in the National 5-a side football competition in Perth and the National Sheep Dressing Finals as well as having a girls and boys team in the National Finals of the YF Tug of War competition at the Royal Highland Show.

Events range from Stockjudging to Curling, from speechmaking to Ten pin bowling and from Football to Tug of War.
