Ten Pin bowling - After a promising practice on Friday night, it all went downhill thereafter with Halkirk probably in the middle of the scoring of the 34 teams entered.  The team consisted of Alan Macleod, Carol-Ann Budge, Bryan Sinclair, Willie Budge, Roddy Gray and Jamie Rydell.

And here's where it all went wrong......

The February National Competitions Weekend 2005 took place in Edinburgh at the Corn Exchange on Saturday 19th February.  The events taking place were 5 -a-side football, Ten-pin bowling and Member of the Year.  Halkirk YFC had an entry in every competition.

The 5-a-side football was first up at 10.15am on astro turf.  The games were 10 minutes with rolling subs.  The first setback to hit the squad saw 4 of them stuck in a lift in the travel inn, no more need be said!

Halkirk were drawn in league 2 along with Crossroads, Orkney, SSS, Bankfoot and Mauchline.  The squad consisted of Roddy Gray, Bryan Sinclair, Andrew Gunn, Alan Gow, Martin Cook, Alan Rutherford, George Coghill Jnr and Jamie Riddell

The results of the games were as follows:-

Halkirk 0 - 0 Orkney

Halkirk 3 - 0 SSS (Goals from Jamie Riddell, Martin Cook & George Coghill)

Halkirk 1 - 1 Crossroads (Goal from Bryan Sinclair)

Halkirk 0 - 0 Mauchline

Halkirk 1 - 1 Bankfoot (Goal from Martin Cook)

Roddy Gray was the player of the tournament for Halkirk making some great saves throughout.  Crossroads were the eventual winners of the competition.

After some tough games, the football was taking its toll as the pictures below prove.

Alan Rutherford suffered a nasty knee injury but played on, as George Coghill takes a rest and Bryan Sinclair takes a well deserved breather!

With lunch barely consumed next up was the 10-pin bowling competition with a team consisting of Alan Gow, Jamie Riddell, Carol-Ann Budge, Roddy Gray, Willie Budge and Bryan Sinclair representing Halkirk.  There was to be no repeat of last year's third place in Orkney as the pins just wouldn't fall down this time.

Jamie Riddell gets ready to throw and returns with a strike!

                      Alan Gow limbers up

As Gray and Sinclair get ready to do some damage

Where would we be without a loyal band of supporters and a secretary to keep an eye on us!!!

In the evening Ellen Falconer represented Halkirk in the Member of the Year Competition and although not placed in the final four, earned high praise from the judges.

Overall a good weekend had by all and Caithness kept on the map!!!!!!
