District Winter Stock Judging Success After last years dismal showing there was a return to normal service for Halkirk with placings in both the individual and team competitions. Taking the team honours for Halkirk were an A team of John Anderson, Joanna Hunter and Andrew Mowat whilst the D team from Halkirk came a creditable 2nd. This was mainly the Mowat team with Angus and Gina being joined by Scott Robertson. Halkirk C came in 6th with Robert Sutherland, Duncan Macmillan and Jamie Gunn. The lowest placed Halkirk team contained stock judging legend and club chairman Andrew Gunn who could only amass a paltry 105 points out of a possible 200, yes that's 200. Joining Andrew in this lowly position were Craig Budge and Louise Wylie-Davies. Angus Mowat further covered himself in glory for once with a second in the individual but was pipped for the individual crown by fellow Halkirk member, John Anderson of Broynach. A further success for Halkirk saw the Associates and then the ladies crown scooped by Joanna Hunter.
Hunter snares Reserve in Over Wintering contest New Club member Jojo Hunter took the reserve championship in the Aberdeen and Northern Cattle Over wintering competition. Her stot named Mongo, was beaten in the championship by Kiev Ross, of Forss Club.
Christmas Classic New Halkirk member Louise Wylie-Davies was the first Halkirk member to compete at the Classic at Thainstone for many years and came home with a creditable 4th place.
Brains of the North Shock for Halkirk Halkirk took the honours on home soil as they won the Brains of the North District title in the Ross Institute, Halkirk. A team of Alexander Banks, Craig Budge, Gina Mowat and Isobel Swanson beat off fierce competition from Forss in the head to head final. The Halkirk A team didn't quite make the final but was made up of Fiona Swanson, Fiona Coghill, Louise Thoms and Sarah Jardine.

Singer Sewing Halkirk came an excellent 2nd in the
Singer Sewing whilst the Juniors came first and Best exhibit was also
attained.

Highland Success for Halkirk members A teams of Halkirk members represented Caithness in the Associate Stock Judging at the Royal Highland show. Andrew Gunn, Kenneth Sutherland and Bryan Sinclair took second place and only narrowly missed out on the top honour once again.
Rally returns to its rightful home The Highland Rally was held in Caithness this year. The club had a good turnout of members, with the members managing to win back the Overall Rally Trophy!!
National Agri Skills Success Well done to Alan Gow, Shaun Macleod and Robert Sutherland on winning the National Agri-skills.

Halkirk lad’s rain supreme A team from Halkirk Young Farmers retained the Caithness Young Farmers Rugby sevens title.
Gunn claims Club Member of Year The first results of the new Young farmer year were announced at the club AGM held in the Ross Institute. Based on participation and success in competitions ranging from club to National during 2008 and the start of 2009. Club chairman Andrew Gunn came out on top in the club competition.
